DOHA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's prime minister on Thursday called on all parties to respond constructively to ongoing mediation efforts aimed at reviving negotiations between the United States and Iran and reaching a lasting peace agreement.
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani made the remarks during a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement from Qatar's Foreign Ministry.
The Qatari official reaffirmed his country's support for efforts to resolve the crisis through diplomacy and thanked Pakistan and other mediators for helping facilitate a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The two sides also discussed bilateral ties, regional developments, and Pakistan's efforts to support de-escalation and strengthen regional security and stability, the statement said.
A temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran took effect last month after weeks of escalating attacks that heightened concerns about regional stability, energy security, and shipping in the Gulf. Qatar and other regional and international partners have repeatedly urged dialogue to prevent further escalation. ■
