MANILA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven Filipino seafarers were injured after a drone attack struck the container ship "San Antonio" in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, the Philippines' Department of Migrant Workers said Thursday.
In a statement, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the seven Filipinos were among the crew members hurt when a drone hit the vessel.
Cacdac said the Filipino crew members survived the attack and are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the region for burns and gas inhalation caused by the explosion triggered by the drone strike.
Of the seven injured Filipino seafarers, Cacdac said four sustained minor injuries while three remain under intensive care.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. ■
