BAGHDAD, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and two others seriously injured on Thursday due to a head-on crash between a passenger vehicle and a truck in southern Iraq's province of al-Qadisiyah.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Jabbar Hussein from the country's traffic directorate told Xinhua that the cause of the collision in the town of al-Budayr was "excessive speed and non-compliance with traffic regulations."
The injuries have been sent to hospital for emergency treatment, Hussein said.
Traffic accidents are common in Iraq due to poor road conditions and widespread disregard for safety regulations. ■
