NEW DELHI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- At least three persons were killed in India's eastern state of West Bengal and a few offices of the state's current ruling party, the All India Trinamool Congress, were vandalised and set on fire by unknown miscreants over the past 24 hours, confirmed a state government official on Wednesday.

Following the violent incidents, Gyanesh Kumar, the country's chief election commissioner, ordered the immediate arrest of those involved in the attacks.

The commissioner also reportedly issued instructions to the top officials in the state government machinery, responsible for maintaining law and order, to maintain continuous patrolling in sensitive areas.

Assembly elections were held in West Bengal on April 23 and 29, with the final results announced two days ago.
