KABUL, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Construction has commenced on a major water supply network in Charikar, the capital of Afghanistan's eastern Parwan province, with an estimated cost of 88 million afghanis (about 1.39 million U.S. dollars), local authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
According to an official statement, the network will extend nearly 60 kilometers and is designed to serve up to 5,000 households. The project is expected to be completed within one year.
Once operational, the system is anticipated to significantly reduce the shortage of safe drinking water in the area, improving access for thousands of residents.
Officials added that the implementation of the project will also generate employment opportunities for a large number of people, contributing to local economic growth and better living conditions. ■
