JERUSALEM, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said Wednesday it launched a new series of airstrikes in multiple areas of Lebanon, targeting what it described as Hezbollah sites.
The strikes came shortly after Israel issued new displacement warnings for residents in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. Earlier Israeli airstrikes in the territory killed at least four people.
In a post on X, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee urged residents of about a dozen villages and towns to move at least 1,000 meters away to open areas ahead of further strikes.
Airstrikes that began Tuesday and continued into Wednesday killed Ali Qassem Ahmad, head of the Zellaya municipality, along with three members of his family, Lebanon's National News Agency reported. Three others were wounded. The strike hit the family's home in the town of Zellaya in the western Bekaa.
Israel's military said it struck about 25 sites in Lebanon over the past 24 hours, targeting structures it said were used by Hezbollah for military purposes.
On Wednesday morning, Hezbollah fired an explosive drone toward Israel, the Israeli military said, adding that it struck near the Israel-Lebanon border.
Hezbollah also launched explosive drones and rockets toward Israeli troops in southern Lebanon. Two drones detonated near the troops, moderately wounding one soldier and lightly wounding another, the military said.
The group said it fired a drone at Israeli troops in the town square of Al-Taybeh, claiming a "confirmed hit." It also said it targeted troops near Al-Bayada with artillery fire overnight.
Hezbollah said the attacks were in response to "Israeli violations" of a fragile ceasefire that took effect last month. ■
