TEHRAN, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran is still reviewing a U.S. proposal and will convey its response to Pakistan after completing its assessment, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Wednesday, according to Iran's ISNA news agency.

Baghaei said Iran is summarizing its views on the proposal before sharing them with the Pakistani side, which has been acting as a mediator in the talks, ISNA reported.

Also on Wednesday, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) navy said that it expects "safe and stable" passage through the Strait of Hormuz under new procedures, following the end of "threats from aggressors."

In a post on the social media platform X, the force thanked ship captains and vessel owners in the Gulf and Gulf of Oman for complying with Iranian regulations governing transit through the strategic waterway. It said their cooperation contributed to maritime security in the region.

"With aggressor threats neutralized and new protocols in place, safe and stable passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured," the IRGC navy added.

Earlier in the week, Iran and the United States exchanged warnings after President Donald Trump said U.S. forces would begin escorting ships out of the strait under a plan he called "Project Freedom," which he described as a humanitarian measure.

In response, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that "any foreign armed forces, especially the aggressive U.S. army, will be attacked" if they approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump later said Tuesday that the initiative would be paused to allow time to see whether a peace deal could be reached between Washington and Tehran.

On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing Iran's then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and U.S. bases and assets in the Middle East.

Iran also imposed stricter conditions on navigation through the strait, including restrictions affecting vessels linked to Israel and the United States, following earlier strikes on Iranian territory.

A ceasefire was reached between the warring sides on April 8, followed by peace talks in Pakistan's Islamabad on April 11 and 12, which ended without an agreement.
