KIEV, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Russia carried out strikes on Ukraine's gas extraction facilities on Tuesday, killing five people and injuring 37 others, said Ukraine's state-owned gas operator Naftogaz.
According to Naftogaz, facilities in the central Poltava region and the eastern Kharkiv region were targeted by drones and ballistic missiles.
Ukraine's State Service for Emergencies said two rescue workers were killed in a follow-up strike after arriving at the scene in the Poltava region, with 23 others injured.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that of the 11 ballistic missiles launched, eight hit targets in Ukraine, one was intercepted, and two failed to reach their destinations. It also said air defense destroyed 149 of 164 drones Russia launched. ■
