KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Xinhua) -- MIMOS International Venture Sdn. Bhd. (MIVSB), the commercialization arm of MIMOS Berhad under Malaysia's Finance Ministry, announced a partnership with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on Tuesday aimed strengthening Malaysia-Brunei collaboration in deep-tech innovation and commercialization.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to innovation-led growth, cross-border collaboration and structured pathways to bring research to market. Both countries are seen as having complementary strengths, positioning them to build a more connected regional innovation ecosystem, MIVSB said in a statement.
The collaboration combines Malaysia's experience in technology commercialization with Brunei's growing research capabilities, particularly in artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
Under the partnership, MIVSB and UBD will explore developing a cross-border innovation ecosystem to nurture research, intellectual property and startups, guiding them towards market readiness in Malaysia, Brunei and potentially wider ASEAN markets.
MIVSB managing director Mohamad Azriani Abd Aziz said the collaboration would strengthen the regional innovation value chain and support the commercialization of promising research through links with industry and investors.
UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor Masairol Masri said the partnership would enhance industry engagement and provide a clearer pathway for startups and talent to scale regionally and globally.
The initiative is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, support innovation-driven enterprises and boost industry participation, contributing to broader efforts to enhance economic resilience and sustainable, technology-driven growth in the region, said the statement. ■
