KABUL, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Work for the construction of four water reservoir dams has begun in central Afghanistan's Daykundi province, reported the official Radio and Television of Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Financed by the government, the essential project at a cost of 12.6 million afghani (around 196,000 U.S. dollars) would facilitate farmers to bring more land under cultivation and irrigate thousands of acres of land in the mountainous province, the official media outlet added.
The Afghan government has earlier constructed dozens of small reservoir dams in numerous districts across the post-war country enabling farmers to irrigate more land and thus increase agricultural products. ■
