YEREVAN, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Armenia and the European Union (EU) signed a connectivity partnership deal and pledged to strengthen economic and security cooperation at their first-ever summit on Tuesday, local media reported.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa witnessed the signing of the document.
"From transport to energy and digital networks, it can turn Armenia into a strategic hub at the crossroads of continents," von der Leyen said on social media X, adding that the initiative would connect the EU with the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
The partnership covers transport, energy and digital infrastructure and aligns with the EU's Cross-Regional Connectivity Agenda and Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative.
The two sides also launched a high-level dialogue on connectivity and a high-level transport dialogue to institutionalize cooperation. ■
