BAGHDAD, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi parliament announced Monday that the names of the proposed cabinet members would be presented to parliament for a vote next week.
The announcement was made during a session chaired by the parliament speaker Haibet al-Halbousi, according to a statement by the parliament's media office.
Al-Halbousi also said the parliament expects to receive the government program from prime minister-designate Ali al-Zaidi by the end of this week for review by relevant parliamentary committees.
On April 27, Iraqi President Nizar Amedi named Ali al-Zaidi, nominated by the Coordination Framework, the largest parliamentary bloc and an umbrella alliance of Shiite parties, as the prime minister-designate.
According to the Iraqi constitution, the prime minister-designate has 30 days to present his cabinet and government program to the parliament for a vote of confidence.
Under Iraq's post-2003 power-sharing system, the presidency is held by a Kurd, the parliamentary speaker by a Sunni Muslim, and the prime minister by a Shiite Muslim. ■
