HONG KONG, May 5 (Xinhua) -- A vehicle fire inside the Hong Kong-bound tube of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge undersea tunnel sparked major traffic disruption Tuesday evening, prompting temporary lane closures and traffic tailbacks.
Online footage shows a tractor unit catching fire at around 7 p.m., billowing thick black smoke with stray flames dropping onto the roadway and smoke filling the tunnel.
The Transport Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government confirmed partial lane closures on the Hong Kong-bound tunnel tube due to the incident, with traffic remaining congested at the scene.
Firefighters and police responded swiftly to put out the blaze. ■
