KABUL, May 4 (Xinhua) -- At least three commuters have been confirmed dead following a high-speed collision between a passenger vehicle and a truck in northern Afghanistan's Faryab province, the provincial police office said in a statement on Monday.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening on the outskirts of Andkhoy district, according to the provincial police office. All three victims were traveling in the high-speed vehicle at the time of the crash.
Authorities did not provide further details but confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the mishap.
This latest road tragedy comes amid a pattern of deadly accidents on Afghanistan's often hazardous highways. On Thursday, six passengers were killed and 25 others injured in two separate road accidents in northeastern Badakhshan province.
Officials have repeatedly cited poor road conditions, reckless driving, speeding, and a lack of safety measures as contributing factors to such frequent mishaps. ■
