MADRID, May 3 (Xinhua) -- World No.1 Jannik Sinner needed less than an hour to defeat Alexander Zverev and win the Mutua Madrid Open title on Sunday.
Sinner required just 58 minutes to seal a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the second seed, who was chasing his third Madrid title.
The win made Sinner the first man to claim five consecutive Masters 1000 titles, following triumphs in Paris last year and in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo in 2026.
His performance was so dominant that Sinner did not face a single break point against an opponent well suited to Madrid's clay conditions.
"I'm very happy that I've continued to believe in myself. I'm showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline. To do so, you need to have the right team behind you, which I have. I'm very happy about me, but also the team, and this means a lot to all of us," Sinner said.
Sinner converted all four of his break points and won 93 percent of points behind his first serve, keeping Zverev under pressure from the outset.
"There is a lot of work behind it, a lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me.
"I started the match very well. It's been another incredible tournament," he added. ■
