PHNOM PENH, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak said on Monday that the iconic Angkor Wat has been ranked second among Asia's most attractive tourist destinations in 2026 by TripAdvisor.

The minister announced this in a text posted on his official social media platforms, with TripAdvisor's list of Asia's top 25 tourist destinations, which also saw Singapore's Gardens by the Bay ranked first and India's Taj Mahal placed third.

TripAdvisor said on its website that Angkor Wat is a world wonder, with its architecture and intricate carvings, and that many people visit it at sunrise.

"Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site and admire its architecture and intricate carvings," TripAdvisor said.

"Many people visit at sunrise, so make sure to set your alarm to snag a spot. The guided tour is also worthwhile as you'll hear the stories and significance behind the landmark," it added.

Angkor Wat is one of the major temples in the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park in northwest Siem Reap province. The 401-square-km park is home to 91 ancient temples, which were built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.

The ancient park, which is the most popular tourist destination in the Southeast Asian country, attracted a total of 322,004 international visitors in the first four months of 2026, generating about 15.5 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales, said the latest report from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.
