BAMAKO, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Mali's transitional President Assimi Goita has assumed the functions of minister of defense and veterans affairs, according to a decree reported by local media.
No further details were immediately available on the duration or scope of the arrangement.
The move came after Mali's Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in coordinated attacks late last month. Camara had been named minister of defense and veterans affairs in the government announced in February. ■
