RAMALLAH, May 3 (Xinhua) -- A young Palestinian man was killed and four others were injured by Israeli army fire in the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
It said in a statement that 26-year-old Naif Samaro was killed after being shot in the head during an Israeli raid.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its teams treated 40 people for tear gas inhalation, with 10 cases requiring hospitalization.
Local sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that Israeli forces stormed Nablus, raiding several shops amid heavy traffic and crowded streets, while firing live ammunition and tear gas.
Tensions have been rising across the West Bank since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, 2023.
According to Palestinian statistics, more than 1,000 Palestinians, including over 235 children, have been killed in the West Bank since then. ■
