Chinese automaker Chery leads Israel auto sales in Jan.-April

JERUSALEM, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker Chery led Israel's car market in the first four months of 2026, according to data issued by the Israel Vehicle Importers Association on Sunday.

Chery, which offers gasoline, hybrid, and full-electric cars from its Omoda, Jaecoo, Tiggo, Fx, and Arrizo series, sold 26,777 units during the period.

Japanese carmaker Toyota ranked second with 11,421 units, followed by South Korea's Hyundai with 11,392, the data showed.

Chinese brands as a whole accounted for the largest share of Israel's imported passenger car sales during the period, with 48,627 units delivered.

In the electric vehicle (EV) segment, Chinese models as a whole made up 75.6 percent of sales, selling 9,437 units.

U.S. manufacturer Tesla topped Israel's EV market with 1,831 units sold during the period, followed by China's Xpeng and Changan Automobile, which sold 1,794 and 1,529 units, respectively.
