KIEV, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday that Ukraine is planning to launch a military reform next month, including a significant increase in salaries for frontline personnel.

"I have set the task of significantly increasing pay based on the principle of fairness," Zelensky said on X.

Under the plan, the personnel on non-combat positions will get at least 30,000 hryvnias (about 682 U.S. dollars), while those on combat positions will earn several times higher, he said.

Zelensky also instructed officials to introduce special contracts for infantry soldiers, with payments ranging from 250,000 hryvnias to 400,000 hryvnias depending on the execution of combat missions.

The reform will also include the introduction of defined service terms and a phased discharge from service through expanding the contract system.

Zelensky ordered the country's military command and the minister of defense to discuss the implementation of the reform with combat commanders.
