PHNOM PENH, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's famous Angkor Archaeological Park received a total of 322,004 international visitors in the first four months of 2026, a year-on-year drop of 32.1 percent, said a press release on Friday.

The UNESCO-listed world heritage site earned about 15.5 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales during the January-April period this year, down 30.2 percent year-on-year, said the press release from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.

Situated in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-square-km park, the kingdom's most popular tourist destination, is home to 91 ancient temples, which were built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the decrease in the number of foreign tourists was likely due to global and regional economic slowdowns, online scam issues, border conflict with Thailand, and fuel price hikes.
