KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Bursa Malaysia has reported higher earnings and revenue in the first quarter ended March 31, 2026, supported mainly by higher securities trading activity as well as increased listing and issuer fees, the local bourse said on Thursday.

The firm's quarterly net profit climbed 6.45 percent year-on-year to 72.83 million ringgit (18.35 million U.S. dollars), while its revenue rose 16 percent to 214.08 million ringgit, it said in a statement.

"As 2026 progresses, Malaysia's capital market continues to operate within a resilient domestic environment, supported by steady economic growth and policy certainty," the firm's chief executive officer Fad'l Mohamed said.

Malaysia's gross domestic product is projected to expand between 4 percent and 5 percent, providing a constructive backdrop for investment and capital market activity, he added.

Against this outlook, he said Bursa Malaysia will continue to prioritize its role as a market operator by enhancing trading activity and supporting sustainable capital formation, as it seeks to meet the evolving needs of investors, issuers and the broader economy. (1 ringgit equals 0.25 U.S. dollar)
