TASHKENT, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Fergana International Airport is set to undergo a comprehensive modernization of its infrastructure to enhance capacity and service standards, according to the official website of the president of Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the development concept during his visit to the Fergana region. The project aims to replace facilities that have been in operation for over 30 years with modern passenger and cargo terminals capable of meeting international technical requirements.

The upgrade focuses on the construction of a new passenger terminal, which will double the airport's current throughput to about 1,200 passengers per hour, alongside the extension of the runway and the addition of aircraft stands to accommodate up to 10 planes simultaneously.

The president highlighted the importance of implementing global management standards and suggested the involvement of foreign operators. The expansion is intended to strengthen transport connectivity in the Fergana Valley and support the region's growing role as a logistics hub.
