JAKARTA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian military court on Wednesday opened the trial of four military defendants allegedly involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, an activist with the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence.

In an open hearing, military prosecutors read out the charges against the four defendants, who could face prison terms of up to 12 years if convicted, while judges requested that the victim be presented as a witness in subsequent proceedings.

The case stems from an acid attack on Andrie Yunus on March 12, which left him with severe injuries.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has described the case as a serious crime amounting to terrorism and stressed that the investigation must be thorough, ensuring all perpetrators are punished.
