Armenia posts 4.6 pct rise in foreign trade in Q1

YEREVAN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Armenia's foreign trade turnover rose 4.6 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2026 to approximately 4.7 billion U.S. dollars, the Statistical Committee reported Monday.

Exports reached over 1.7 billion dollars, up 4.5 percent, while imports exceeded 2.9 billion dollars, up 4.6 percent.

The country's economic activity indicator rose 7.1 percent year on year in the first quarter. Growth was driven mainly by construction, which expanded 22 percent, and industry, up 13.4 percent. The services sector grew 7.4 percent and domestic trade rose 2.1 percent.

Agriculture was the only major sector to contract, posting a 5.2 percent decline.

The country's inflation stood at 4.2 percent during the reporting period.
