VIENTIANE, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Lao Front for National Development (LFND) convened its 12th National Congress on Tuesday under the theme of enhancing the organization's role, strengthening national unity, and mobilizing the collective strength of all Lao people to build an independent and self-reliant economy.

The meeting, held in the Lao capital Vientiane from Tuesday to Wednesday, was attended by Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and president of Laos, according to Lao National Radio.

In his speech, Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, president of the LFND, said the meeting will review and assess the implementation of activities carried out by the 11th Central Committee of the LPRP over the past five years.

He highlighted that the LFND has served as a central force in promoting national solidarity, working closely with Party and state organizations, mass groups, and local authorities. Its efforts have focused on mobilizing people of all ethnic groups to support national development, including boosting production, agriculture, income generation, and poverty reduction. The LFND has also coordinated support from domestic and international organizations to respond to natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and other emergencies.

The congress will consider and approve key documents, including a political report, a development plan, and updated regulations for the new term.

Delegates will also share experiences and lessons learned to strengthen cooperation and enhance the LFND's role in supporting Party and state priorities.
