HANOI, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam on Monday broke ground on the civilian component of Phan Thiet Airport in the central province of Lam Dong, with a total investment of over 3.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 155.3 million U.S. dollars), the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.
The project covers nearly 75 hectares and is designed as a 4E-level airport, capable of handling modern wide-body aircraft, with a capacity of 2 million passengers per year by 2030, the report said.
Invested by Vietnamese real estate and hospitality giant Sun Group, it features an 18,000-square-meter terminal, aprons, taxiways, air traffic control and navigation systems and other facilities, with completion scheduled in 2027.
Construction of the dual-purpose Phan Thiet Airport began in 2015, with the military component having completed and put into operation. ■
