KABUL, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities launched construction of a cement production plant in northern Jawzjan province on Monday, according to a statement from the office of the deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
The project would play a significant role in strengthening domestic industry, reducing reliance on imports, and contributing to the country's economic development, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said during the inauguration, according to the office's statement.
The facility, with an investment of 160 million U.S. dollars, is expected to produce 3,000 tonnes of cement daily upon completion. Construction is expected to be finalized within two years, it said. ■
