BAGHDAD, April 26 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured on Sunday in a massive traffic accident involving multiple vehicles in the city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, local officials and medical sources said.
Traffic police Lieutenant Colonel Hani Zein al-Din told Xinhua that a high-speed tanker truck struck several vehicles north of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, triggering fires.
The collision resulted in the death of at least eight people and injured 25 others, including women and children, the officer added.
Traffic accidents are common in Iraq due to poor road conditions and widespread disregard for safety regulations. ■
