SANYA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion India secured its sixth consecutive Asian Beach Games women's beach kabaddi title, defeating Sri Lanka 47-31 in Monday's final, while Iran claimed the men's title.
India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Silver medalist Sri Lanka made history by advancing to the final for the first time, while Nepal and Bangladesh shared the bronze medals.
"I am very happy to win this gold medal. It is a proud moment for India," said India captain Ritu. "It has been 10 years since our last gold at the Asian Beach Games. Our step-by-step efforts in training over the years made this victory possible here in Sanya."
In the men's final, Iran defeated India 44-31 to clinch the title with a perfect record, bringing the country its second gold medal at the Games. Pakistan and Sri Lanka took bronze.
"We are very honoured to represent Iran at this competition," said Mahan Faraji Shekardasht. "Beach kabaddi is developing rapidly in Iran, and participating in this tournament is a great inspiration for our men's team." ■
