HORSENS, Denmark, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion China secured its second straight win in the Uber Cup group stage on Saturday, sweeping host Denmark 5-0 to book an early berth in the quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Chinese women's team produced a commanding performance in its second Group A tie, with all five matches won in straight games.
Wang Zhiyi, Han Yue and Xu Wenjing delivered victories in the three singles matches, while the doubles pairs Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning and Jia Yifan/Zhang Shuxian defeated their Danish opponents in two games, sealing another clean sweep for China.
China, which opened its campaign with a 5-0 win over Ukraine on Friday, has now claimed two victories from as many group ties and secured qualification for the knockout stage with one tie to spare.
In the other Uber Cup Group A match on Saturday, India beat Ukraine 4-1 to improve to one win and one loss. India will face China in the final round of group matches.
Elsewhere in the Uber Cup, Japan blanked South Africa 5-0, Malaysia edged Türkiye 3-2, Indonesia beat Canada 3-2, and Chinese Taipei defeated Australia 5-0.
Three Thomas Cup ties were also played on Saturday. Chinese Taipei swept Sweden 5-0, Malaysia beat England 3-2, and Japan defeated Finland 5-0.
China's men's team had no match on Saturday and will next face Canada on Monday. ■
