KABUL, April 24 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and six others injured in a road accident in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province, a local official reported late Thursday.

The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon on the outskirts of Khost city, the provincial capital, after a truck collided with three motorbikes and a rickshaw. A motorcyclist died at the scene, and six others were injured, said Mustaghfir Gurbaz, the provincial government spokesman.

The spokesman attributed the crash to reckless driving and said authorities were investigating the incident.

The latest fatality brings the toll from road accidents in Afghanistan to at least 16 killed and 19 injured across six separate incidents in the past week alone.

Thousands of people die in traffic accidents across Afghanistan each year, with officials frequently pointing to reckless driving, overloaded vehicles, poor road conditions, a lack of traffic signs, and dilapidated highways as the primary causes.
