MOSCOW, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Federal Security Service said Friday it had thwarted a planned terrorist attack targeting leaders of the country's communications regulator.
The agency said the plot, foiled on April 18, aimed to detonate an explosive device in a vehicle to murder leaders of Roskomnadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media.
Seven suspects, allegedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence agencies via the messaging platform Telegram, were detained in four cities for preparing the attack. The alleged team leader was killed while resisting arrest.
Authorities said criminal investigations have been launched into the illegal trafficking of arms and explosive devices. ■
