BUCHAREST, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Romania's Social Democratic Party (PSD), the largest party in the ruling coalition, withdrew all its ministers from the government on Thursday in a move aimed at forcing Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to resign, according to local media reports.
The withdrawal has caused the current government to lose its parliamentary majority, reducing it to a minority government. Around 1:45 p.m. local time (1045 GMT), seven PSD officials submitted their resignations, including the deputy prime minister and six ministers.
The PSD has not yet initiated discussions with the president regarding the filing of a no-confidence motion against the government, reported Digi 24.
Three opposition groups in the parliament are considering filing a no-confidence motion against the government. However, given the required number of parliamentary signatures needed to file such a motion, only the PSD currently has enough lawmakers to do so independently.
Under Romania's constitution, when the political composition of the government changes, the prime minister has 45 days to seek a confidence vote in parliament. ■
