MELBOURNE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Melbourne Tigers on Thursday announced the signing of Chinese power forward Chen Mingling for the current season in Australia's second-tier basketball league.
The club said Chen has joined from the Guangdong Vermilion Birds for the ongoing 2026 National Basketball League 1 (NBL1) season, where she will link up with Chinese national teammate Yang Shuyu.
In a statement, the Melbourne Tigers said Chen will bring size, versatility and international experience after representing China in 3x3 basketball at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The move follows the signing of Yang, who won a silver medal for China in 3x3 basketball at the Tokyo Olympic Games, on April 7.
The Melbourne Tigers compete in the southern conference of the semi-professional NBL1.
The women's team won 12 of its 22 regular-season games in 2025 but did not qualify for the playoffs, and has lost its opening four games of the 2026 season. ■
