BERLIN, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Basketball's world governing body FIBA announced on Wednesday that Japan will host the 2030 Women's World Cup, while France will stage the 2031 Men's World Cup.
Tokyo will host the 2030 tournament from November 26 to December 8. The 2031 event will be held from August 29 to September 14 across the French cities of Lille, Lyon and Paris.
"The FIBA World Cups have become synonymous with success, in large part because selecting the appropriate host each time is the cornerstone of our mission to make basketball the most popular sports community," FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said, as FIBA's Central Board met in Berlin to decide on the respective bids.
Japan will host the women's tournament for the first time, having previously staged the men's World Championship in 2006, before FIBA renamed the competition as the World Cup in 2010. France has yet to host a FIBA World Cup. ■
