GENEVA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Shaoxing in China's Zhejiang Province has been awarded the hosting right for the Women's Softball Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifier for LA28, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced on Thursday.
The competition will be held at the Shaoxing Baseball Softball Culture Center in Shaoxing in 2027, with the exact dates to be announced later.
Four teams from Asia and two from Oceania will compete for the only Olympic berth available through the qualifier, which is one of three continental qualifying tournaments. One berth each will also be awarded through the Europe/Africa and the Americas Olympic qualifiers.
A total of six teams will compete in the women's softball tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with host United States having already secured one place automatically.
The winner of the 2027 WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals, to be played in Redcliffe, Australia, from April 5 to 11, and the champion of the Final Qualification Event, which will feature the second- and third-placed teams from each continental qualifier, will take the final two places at LA28. ■
