ADEN, Yemen, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The office of the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said Tuesday that it has concluded a new round of technical military meetings in Amman, capital of Jordan, aimed at facilitating de-escalation between Yemen's parties.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the envoy's office said the meetings were held from Sunday to Monday "within the framework of the Military Coordination Committee (MCC)."

The talks brought together representatives from the internationally recognized Yemeni government, the Joint Forces Command of the Saudi-led coalition backing the government, and the Houthi group.

According to the statement, participants "discussed the current context in Yemen and the region" and explored "ways to improve security for Yemenis through de-escalation and continued dialogue."

The office added that, "based on a commitment from all sides," it is planning to convene a meeting bringing together all three MCC delegations in the coming period.

The MCC includes military representatives from the Yemeni government, the Houthi group, and the Saudi Arabia-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government, and operates under UN supervision.

Established in May 2022 following a UN-mediated truce, the committee aims to monitor the ceasefire, reduce military escalation, and facilitate coordination among the warring parties as part of broader efforts to advance a political resolution to the years-long conflict in Yemen.

Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since 2014, when Houthi forces seized control of the capital, Sanaa, and much of the country's north, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government. The war has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, leaving millions facing food insecurity and lacking access to basic services.
