PHNOM PENH, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's trade volume with its fellow ASEAN member states hit 4.86 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 10.5 percent, said an official report on Wednesday.

The country exported products worth 1.6 billion dollars to other ASEAN countries during the January-March period this year, down 7 percent year-on-year, while its total import amounted to 3.26 billion dollars, up 22 percent, said the report compiled by the Ministry of Commerce.

Cambodia's trade volume with ASEAN accounted for 27.6 percent of the kingdom's total trade volume of 17.58 billion dollars in the first quarter this year, the report said.

The country's top five trading partners in ASEAN were Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, the report added.

ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.

The country's main products exported to ASEAN included garments, shoes, travel goods, bags, solar panels, car tires, electronics, and agricultural products such as rice, cashew nuts, rubber latex, cassava, durians, and bananas, among others.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said Cambodia's growth in trade within ASEAN reflected regional resilience and geographic advantage.

Cambodia could leverage ASEAN as a buffer against external shocks, as the kingdom is well-connected with the region by land, air, and waterway, he told Xinhua.
