RAMALLAH, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Nickolay Mladenov, the U.S.-led Board of Peace's High Representative for Gaza, said on Monday that he held a "very productive meeting" with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa over the full implementation of UNSC Resolution 2803 in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement posted on his X account, Mladenov said, "We are both committed to the coordination needed to ensure that as decommissioning and handover to NCAG (National Committee for the Administration of Gaza) happens in Gaza, Palestinians can benefit from full reconstruction, staged Israeli withdrawal and unity, as per President Trump's 20 Point Plan."
Mladenov, who posted a photo of the meeting, did not specify its location or provide further details.
EU hosts Palestinian peace conference on Monday, drawing together representatives from more than 60 nations to Brussels for talks with Palestinian representatives on stability, security and long-term peace. Both Mladenov and Mustafa attended the meeting.
During the Brussels meeting, Mustafa said he had met for the first time with Mladenov, saying he pressed the Bulgarian diplomat on ongoing Israeli military action in Gaza, increasing humanitarian assistance and security in the coastal enclave.
Mustafa added that he thinks they will be meeting again in the near future.
A ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 10. Its first phase included an exchange of prisoners and detainees between the two sides, the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from some areas.
In mid-January, the United States announced the start of the second phase of its proposed peace plan, which includes a complete Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, the commencement of reconstruction efforts, and the establishment of a transitional governing body in the enclave.
Gaza continues to experience tension despite the ceasefire. The fragile ceasefire continues, with sporadic Israeli airstrikes resulting in Palestinian casualties, amid stalled implementation of the agreement and ongoing disagreements over mechanisms for delivering humanitarian aid and military withdrawal. ■
