TOKYO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended mixed on Tuesday, with the Nikkei stock index supported by gains in heavyweight technology shares, while investors remained cautious amid uncertainty over peace talks between the United States and Iran.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 524.28 points, or 0.89 percent, from Monday at 59,349.17.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 6.64 points, or 0.18 percent, lower at 3,770.38.
On the top-tier Prime Market, the main gainers were nonferrous metal and information and communication issues, while transportation equipment and bank shares were notable decliners.
The Nikkei index was lifted by heavyweight technology shares, which tracked gains on some U.S. peers, while the Topix index hovered around the previous day's closing level amid weakness in other sectors and ended lower. ■
