YANGON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Ministry of Electricity and Energy, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and regional and state governments, is distributing locally produced diesel directly to farmers at their worksites, the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday.

The program aims to reduce fuel shortages and help farmers access diesel more easily at an affordable price, the report said.

For the 2025-2026 summer paddy and oil crop season, diesel is being sold at 10,000 kyats (about 4.76 U.S. dollars) per gallon in villages where ploughing and planting are still underway, it said.

A total of 7,609 gallons of diesel were distributed on Monday. This included 650 gallons in Tatkon and Pobbathiri townships in Nay Pyi Taw, 110 gallons in Pyay township in Bago region, 2,271 gallons in Amarapura, Wundwin and Pyawbwe townships in Mandalay region, and 4,578 gallons in Pwintbyu township in Magway region, it added.

Diesel will continue to be distributed to farmers in the remaining regions and states on a cash payment basis, it said.
