COLOMBO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will launch a dedicated low-floor priority bus service for persons with disabilities on Tuesday from the Makumbura Multimodal Center, the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development said on Monday.
The ministry said the initiative, implemented under the government's Clean Sri Lanka program, aims to promote equal opportunities and protect human dignity for all citizens.
The ministry said 430 million rupees (about 1.36 million U.S. dollars) has been allocated for the project.
Under the first phase, 10 modern, air-conditioned low-floor buses will be deployed, the ministry said, adding that the buses have been designed to provide easy access for wheelchair users. ■
