TOKYO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose on Monday as the benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 348.99 points, or 0.60 percent, from Friday at 58,824.89.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 16.21 points, or 0.43 percent, higher at 3,777.02.
On the top-tier Prime Market, machinery, air transportation, and textile and apparel issues were notable gainers.
Heavyweight technology shares also led the gains, tracking a 13-day winning streak in the U.S. tech-heavy Nasdaq index. At the same time, buybacks following the Nikkei's more than 1,000-point drop on Friday also provided support. ■
