KABUL, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of counter-narcotics police have arrested two traffickers for illegal drugs and seized 40 kg of hashish from their possession in Kandahar province, south of Afghanistan, provincial police spokesman Mullah Assadullah Jamshid said Monday.
The alleged drug smugglers were attempting to take the narcotics from the neighboring Helmand to Kandahar jurisdiction onward to an unknown destination, the official added.
Both the arrested individuals would be handed over to the judiciary after completion of preliminary investigation, the official went on to say.
Previously, police reported the discovery and seizure of nearly 500 kg of illegal drugs in the northern Kunduz and southern Helmand provinces a couple of days ago. ■
