DAMASCUS, April 16 (Xinhua) -- An explosion at a site containing dismantled war remnants in southern Syria on Thursday killed three Syrian soldiers and injured several others, a military source said.
The source, cited by Syria's state-run al-Ikhbariya TV, said the blast occurred at a location where explosive remnants of war collected from different areas in Daraa province had been stored. The explosion also caused material damage at the site.
Earlier, initial reports from a SANA correspondent indicated that the blast took place at a complex along the Damascus-Daraa highway, a key route linking the capital with southern Syria, and resulted in a number of casualties.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, and no further details were provided. ■
