KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The advance estimates of Malaysia's economy in the first quarter of 2026 showed a 5.3 percent year-on-year expansion, easing from the 6.3 percent growth recorded in the previous quarter, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said Friday.

Malaysia's economy in the first quarter of 2026 reflects an economy that remains fundamentally resilient, even with the rising global uncertainties, particularly elevated oil prices following geopolitical tensions, the DOSM said in a statement.

The services sector is seen to anchor overall gross domestic product (GDP) expansion, registering a 5.4 percent growth, attributed mainly to the growth in the wholesale and retail trade sub-sector.

The manufacturing sector is expected to record a growth of 5.8 percent, while the construction sector is seen to grow 7.8 percent, and the agriculture sector is expected to grow 2.8 percent.
