AMMAN, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached a staff-level agreement on Wednesday on the latest reviews of the country's economic reform programs, unlocking 197 million U.S. dollars in new funding, according to an IMF statement.

Despite regional tensions, Jordan's economy showed resilience with 2.8 percent growth in 2025 and accelerating momentum in early 2026, the statement said.

Inflation was kept below 2 percent by the Central Bank of Jordan, supported by robust foreign exchange reserves and a stable banking sector, it added.

Cesar Serra, the IMF mission chief for Jordan, highlighted the government's proactive measures to shield the economy from regional spillovers, including rising energy prices and tourism disruptions.

Jordan had met all quantitative performance criteria and remains committed to reducing its public debt to 80 percent of its gross domestic product by 2028, according to the IMF.

Pending approval by the IMF management and executive board, the agreement will release 140 million dollars under the Extended Fund Facility and 57 million dollars under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

The IMF also emphasized the need for continued structural reforms to foster a dynamic private sector, create jobs, and align climate-related financial reporting with international standards.
