BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.7 percent to 4,055.55 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.05 percent higher at 14,796.33 points.
The combined turnover of the two indices totaled 2.34 trillion yuan (about 341 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.42 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to lithium batteries and game media led the gains, while those related to medicine, aquaculture, oil and gas suffered the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.17 percent to close at 3,626.27 points
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.67 percent higher at 1,829.67 points. ■
