KABUL, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Construction has begun on a cold storage facility worth 1 million U.S. dollars in Kalakan district of Kabul province, as part of efforts to support domestic production and stimulate local economic growth, local media outlet Tolo news reported on Thursday.
The project aims to strengthen agricultural value chains by preserving fresh produce and reducing post-harvest losses. Built on 11 acres of land, the facility will have a storage capacity of 3,000 tons and is expected to be completed within six months, the report said.
Local officials and community members have welcomed the initiative, noting that such projects can create job opportunities, and reduce reliance on imported goods.
Once operational, the facility is expected to contribute to economic development in the district and improve livelihoods for surrounding communities. ■
